Portable EL Detector in PV Module Production: From Detection Process to Factory - Exit Qualification

The Portable EL Detector is a professional device for quality inspection of photovoltaic (PV) modules. Its core detection process is as follows: first, the solar panel is energized to make it emit light; then, a high-precision imaging system monitors the light signal and transmits the signal to computer software for data processing; finally, the detection results are presented in the form of clear images. The detection function is based on the principle of electroluminescence (EL). During operation, a forward current of a specific magnitude is applied to the solar cells, and through the reverse process of the photovoltaic effect, the solar cells are induced to produce a luminescent phenomenon.

The structure of a PV module consists of core components such as PV glass, solar cells, and backsheet. These components are tightly bonded with adhesive film, and aluminum frames are installed around the module to provide sufficient structural support and ensure stability during use. However, the solar cell material itself is highly fragile. During the production, transportation, installation, and subsequent use of PV modules, if they are subjected to external forces such as stepping, impact, or vibration, problems such as hidden cracks and fragments are likely to occur. Such damages will directly damage the internal structure of the module, which not only significantly reduces the power generation capacity of the PV module and affects the overall power generation efficiency, but also may cause safety risks such as electric leakage and fire in severe cases, threatening the safe operation of the PV system.

The EL camera detector can accurately identify potential defects in PV modules, such as hidden cracks and broken cells, by analyzing luminescent images. To ensure the stable performance and safe use of PV modules after leaving the factory, all PV modules must undergo inspection by the Portable EL Detector before leaving the factory, and can only be shipped if they pass the inspection.
